Lots of people just dont get baseball, despite its billing as The National Pastime.

In fact, some believe it is far past its time, that football, college or the pros, or even soccer are more exciting to watch.

But I have a thesis for you to consider. Baseball, football, soccer, and other sports arent about the object of the game or match, or about its rules or whether it is played indoors, on a court, or on grass.

And through them, whether were playing or watching, it is one of the few places where modern men can express their emotions, letting it all hang out, so to speak.

For example, last night, the Big Hurt, Frank Thomas, returned to the South Side to play against his former team, the Chicago White Sox.

Hugely anticipated, this event was a big question mark. Having left under a cloud of negative emotions and accusations, would this giant be applauded or booed?

Would Sox management take a classy path and acknowledge Franks fourteen years with the franchise, his .307 career batting average, and his more than 400 homers?

Or would they pull a Selig, and try to ignore the many milestones he had reached, simply because his very last words were more sour than sweet?

The answer came amidst a sold out U.S. Cellular field. Frank was acknowledged with a highlights reel that played on the bleacher screens, fans gave him a standing ovation.

And he tipped his cap, and went on to hit TWO home runs and nearly beat his former team.
